Whey to go, Angela!

Whey back when, I did a post about my cheesemaking, and mentioned that I hadn't found anything to do with the whey left over. Angela, who is whey to clever for her own good, suggested that I could use it as half of the liquid in a scone recipe. I did. They were good. They have been eaten.
Yesterday, I substituted whey for half the milk in drop scones. They were better than usual! There are no photos of them past the pan stage because they were gobbled up at speed! I will keep looking for uses for whey, and if you have any more suggestions, whey not share them here?
Gosh, sorry if you were looking for a serious post, folks.

Hello Floss

How satisfying to be able to make cheese and to put the whey to good use to. Something I feel I must try out sometime. I'd love to see how it turns out and am intrigued by what it tastes like.

I meant to reply to your email but didn't get around to it... ;-( There is no hurry for the tin thank you.

Warm wishes

Whey hey, what clever ideas!
I really must give this cheese making a go one of these days, you have inspired me. In our area in France we don't have many milk producing cows, its mostly meat farming, but there are plenty of goats for goatsmilk.

I suppose anywhere wher you could use buttermilk, you could add whey, just a thought, even yorkshire puddings instead of the half water half milk. You could also use it in a white sauce for pasta too

Last summer I was getting two to three gallons of milk a day from my goats, but I was raising pigs at the same time, so the whey went to the pigs. But when I don't have pigs, I usually use the whey to make ricotta.

Looking up the recipe for ricotta now, Della...

I guess it could be used to replace buttermilk in Irish soda bread too. See what you've started!!

I like a good cheese, but have never attempted to make any much less know what to do with left over whey. :-)

Whey to go! I'm very impressed that you are making your own cheese. Those scones look delish! I can imagine they were gobbled up immediately.
Oh I saw the comment about scone and John. I always thought it was Joan. Shows what know.

I've looked around a bit today and found the same about ricotta. It looks like Angela has the complete answer for you. I found it in a great book that is a must in most kitchens, Stocking Up, How to Preserve the Foods You Grow Naturally. By the staff of Organic Gardening and Farming. If you need it you can drop me a line and I will get the recipe to you.
